Tri-County Youth Services Bureau: Serving Youth and Families in Southern Maryland since 1971

Tri-County Youth Services Bureau, Inc. (TCYSB) is a community-based, private nonprofit organization supporting youth and strengthening families in Charles, Calvert, and St. Mary’s counties since 1971. The highly skilled counselors, youth development interventionists, and support staff at TCYSB are dedicated to providing delinquency prevention, youth suicide prevention, drug and alcohol prevention, and youth development services to youth and their families. The caring staff at TCYSB work to ameliorate conditions that breed delinquency, youth suicide, drug and alcohol abuse, and family disruption. If your family or your child is experiencing family conflict, behavior problems, depression, delinquency, social withdrawal, skipping school, aggression, anger or other problems, please call TCYSB for a confidential meeting with one of our counselors or youth development interventionists.

Cost-effective Services for Every Youth and Family

TCYSB offers low cost and, in some cases, free counseling and youth development services for youth and families. If a youth is mandated by the court to receive counseling or youth development services, then the youth is entitled to free services at TCYSB. Even if a youth or family is not court mandated for services, counseling and youth development services only cost $10 per session. TCYSB does not accept insurance and the cost of services is never more than $10 per session. (Note: Some youth development group programs cost $25 total for approximately 8 sessions.)

Our Beginning: From a Group of Concerned Citizens to a Thriving Nonprofit

In 1971, a group of counselors in Southern Maryland saw the need for youth counseling and began traveling through Charles, Calvert, and St. Mary’s counties offering counseling services to youth and families. In that first year, the counselors served 100 people. Today, we are serving more than 8,000 people per year.

Tri-County Youth Services Bureau, Inc. (TCYSB) is one of 19 Youth Services Bureaus (YSBs) established in 1971 as community-based nonresidential entities to provide delinquency prevention, youth suicide prevention, drug and alcohol prevention, and youth development services to youth and their families.  Youth Services Bureaus work to ameliorate conditions that breed delinquency, youth suicide, drug and alcohol abuse, and family disruption.

Each Youth Services Bureau functions as an advocate for the needs of youth and families.  They operate under the authority of Article 83C, #2-122, Annotated Code of Maryland, Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR) 16.04.01, and a Memorandum of Agreement between the Department of Juvenile Services and the Sub cabinet for Children’s Services.

Funding is a shared responsibility of the Governor’s Office for Children and local governmental entities (Board of County Commissioners). TCYSB also relies on the donations of generous community members like you.

TCYSB is a non-profit 501©3 organization serving the children, youth, and families of Calvert, Charles and St. Mary’s counties.  Services are focused on the prevention of delinquency, abuse, violence, substance abuse, suicide, and other devastating outcomes for youth and their families.

TCYSB is a member of the Maryland Association of Youth Services Bureaus (MAYSB) and the Maryland Association of Non Profit Organizations (MANO).
